Northern California’s Largest Physician Network
Hill Physicians offers you the largest choice of independent physicians in Northern California. You’ll find our affiliated doctors in your neighborhood, near your workplace, around community hospitals and at academic medical centers.
Our medical group includes more than 1,000 primary care physicians and more than 2,500 specialists in practices across the region. This extraordinary size not only provides you with choice and convenience, but also the confidence that you’ve chosen a medical group with expertise in almost every health condition. That’s important because most of your care will come from doctors within that medical group.

Different medical groups have different rules for referrals. With Hill Physicians, your primary care doctor has complete freedom to refer you to a Hill specialist, without any medical group review required. You’ll always have easy access to specialists to discuss your health.

Members enjoy direct access to Hill-affiliated OB/GYNs, vision or mental health professionals, and can directly request pharmacy consultations, nutritional counseling and support from experienced Hill Physicians nurses for complex health conditions.

Learn More about Medical Groups
Your HMO is in charge of making sure that you can get the health care you need. It contracts with groups of doctors to provide you with your health care. These groups of doctors are called medical groups, and are made up of many different physician practices.
The choice of a medical group can impact your care in a number of ways. For example, the medical group:
-
Checks that its doctors give care that’s been proven to work.
-
Sets the rules for you to “get an ok” (a referral) to see specialists and get other care.
-
Sometimes decides the steps doctors must follow to diagnose and treat health problems.
-
Checks the training and experience of new doctors.
-
Decides where you go for hospital care and other medical services.
-
Provides the network of primary care doctors and specialists that will take care of you.
That’s why the selection of Hill Physicians Medical Group can make a difference in your overall care.
How Can I Tell My Current Medical Group
If you already have HMO, Medicare Advantage or managed Medi-Cal coverage, you already have a medical group. Take a look at your membership card. You should see the name of your doctor and a separate listing for a medical group.

If you don’t see Hill Physicians listed as your medical group, you can easily switch with any change in your cost or interruption in your insurance coverage.
