Weekly Carrot Wellness Tip

Hill Physicians Wellness Programs' Weekly Wellness Tip is provided by our Wellness Specialist, Lisa Bellini, M.S., R.D., to help you reach your personal goals of optimal health, wellness and vitality!

Vending Machine on a Diet?

Has your vending machine at work gone on a diet? Healthy snacks in some vending machines are identified by a small green leaf next to the price tag. These snacks have passed a nutrition test and contain 7 grams of fat or less, 260 calories or less and 250mg of sodium or less. Do they taste good? Yes! These old favorites like granola bars, baked chips, rice cakes, pretzels and trail mix have been reworked to contain less fat, sugar and sodium to pass the green leaf test.

Of course one way to ensure the nutrient value of your snacks would be to prepare them at home.

Here are a few suggestions for healthy snacks for your family's lunch bags: squeezable low-fat yogurt, any fresh fruit, pudding made with fat free milk, hummus and pita bread or applesauce.
