Give Your Groceries a Makeover
Healthy eating starts with healthy grocery shopping. Avoid the processed foods that fill center supermarket aisles and stock up on items typically located on the store’s perimeter: fresh fruits, vegetables, fish, lean meat and low-fat dairy products. To make more nutritious choices, read food labels and aim to:
-
Avoid items with artificial ingredients or contents that you can’t pronounce.
-
Choose foods with five or fewer ingredients.
-
Be wary of exaggerated health claims and cartoon-laden packaging.
-
Select low-fat, low-sodium foods. Pass on trans fats.
